Rick Green Sure Is Boring

The latest Des Moines Register editor, Rick Green, has a long and boring "Hello" column in the paper today.

Does anybody give a crap about Rick Green after reading that?  Can you even make it through without falling asleep?

Michael Gartner, a person who this blog has never liked, wrote a brutally honest column in Cityview the other day about the arrival of Green.  Here's a taste:
why does Gannett keep putting outsiders into the top news job at the Register? Why not pick someone who knows the city and the state? How is Rick Green — by all accounts a nice fellow and a strong editor — going to hit the ground running when he doesn’t know the issues, the people, the history and the rhythms of this state?

...The Register was once a destination newspaper — a place where reporters and editors hoped to spend their careers. But no longer. The last three editors averaged five years here and then went on to Indianapolis and Detroit and Cincinnati. We’ve become a branch-office town for Gannett.

And that’s a shame.

At any rate, welcome to town, Mr. Green. We hope you’ll stay long enough to unpack your bags, to realize it’s not Chillicothe or Cincinnati or Palm Springs, your previous stops on the Gannett career train. We’re Iowa.
Michael Gartner may be a corrupt prick, but he's absolutely correct here.

Boring may be an improvement for the Register, considering the regime of Nurse Ratched aka Carolyn Washburn

Her super-sized far-leftist ass oversaw the further downsizing of the newspaper into an absurd comic strip where you end up getting some hirsute queen "business reporter" quoting a notorious Marxist Jew-hater about economic issues in the state and Rekha Basu using a phrase in a column that refers to a man giving a woman carpet burns on her legs while engaging in rough anal sex

The inmates were definitely running the asylum under Washburn.

  1. Rick Green is a terribly disappointing pick for the new editor of Des Moines Register. Overall, Rick Green's performance as editor of the small-town Palm Springs newspaper "The Desert Sun" was controversial because of his right wing bias. He's long on management buzz words, short on breadth and depth in content creation and journalistic ethics. He's better suited for a fox news job. Des Moines has a great history of talented editors. Rick Green is not a peer to this storied newspaper's top editor picks.
