Remember the Valerie Plame kerfuffle? If you ever read the Des Moines Register during the mid 2000's, you heard about it all the time on the Opinion page. Rekha Basu, in particular, wrote often about it, despite ignoring the fact that Valerie Plame's name had been listed in Who's Who next to her husband's since 1999. The point was that Register was obsessed with finding a way to take out VP Dick Cheney and President George W. Bush. Turns out, it was Richard Armitage, a good friend of Obama-endorser Colin Powell, who leaked Plame's name.
Now it is 2010 and Barack Obama is President and Hillary Clinton is the Secretary of State. Today there is the WikiLeaks scandal, which is a big deal since it involves the release of a quarter million classified documents and diplomatic cables. Espionage, anybody?
Where is the Register's Opinion section on the WikiLeaks story? Why, nowhere! Any columns by Rekha Basu lately on the leaking of classified documents? Heck, no! They seem to be sitting around waiting for something negative to impact Bush or Cheney before pouncing and typing their hysterical nonsense. If it wasn't for AP wire copy, the story would likely never be mentioned in the Register.
