Roxanne Conlin back in the 1980s
Iowans sure love their incumbents, don't they?
Yes, they do.
They loved Terry Branstad so much they brought him back! Mustache and all! Let's see how many times Branstad will raise taxes this time around, because he bent over backwards to jack them up during the 80s and 90s.
Rapist-enabler Roxanne Conlin sure lost big. Grassley got around 65% of the vote with Taxanne picking up around 33%. What a shellacking. She was such a lousy candidate in 1982 when she ran for governor and she was even worse in 2010. I hope we're all done looking at her goddamn chicken neck. Go count your millions, loser!
I can't say I'm happy about Chuck Grassley getting re-elected. Did you hear his speech tonight? It was horrible. This clown has been sucking off the teat of government for over 50 years with his Statehouse, House of Representatives, and Senate time added up. And what's he done? Nothing.
As I've said before:
Grassley is a pro-shamnesty, pro-tax raising, pro-Rainforest, pro-Abramoff, pro-E-85 lifer/loser who did nothing about the Alternative Minimum Tax, screwed up the bankruptcy laws, and who blames Bush for all the pork spending going on in Washington (while he was the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee!)
Democrat Leonard "The Corpse" Boswell got re-elected. Can you believe it? Republican Brad "The Tan" Zaun must have really really sucked with voters. That should have been an easy pickup for the Republicans. I've also complained endlessly about how the Republican Party of Iowa continues to field lousy candidate after lousy candidate. I swear, if Dr Greg Ganske hadn't gotten all ambitious and tried to take on Tom Harkin some years back, the 3rd District would still be his.
Dave "Bearded Marxist" Loebsack won re-election against now-two-time loser Marianette Miller-Meeks. Hang it up, doc. You suck. You couldn't have beaten a poly sci professor who voted for Cap & Trade, Obamacare, and worships at the altar of Political Action Committees rather than holding town halls? She was a glum candidate anyway.
The race between sweaty, creepy-looking Bruce Braley and Ben "Hanging Out On The Front Step In My TV Ad" Lange is a close one. I expect Mr Sweaty And Creepying Looking to prevail just because in Iowa we continue to re-elect the same losers over and over again.
It is late and I am tired, but it is exciting to see the changes in the rest of the country. If anything, this puts the brakes on Obama's agenda, or at least slows down destructive legislation.
UPDATE - Christ, what was I thinking? They got those State Supreme Court Justices tossed after all. Holy shit! That's kind of amazing, but we need to toss every judge when up for retention and not just for specific reasons. Fun to read Rekha Basu bitch about it this morning.
