And yes, turning that building into a Conference Center caused it to lose even more money.
And it's true that the Wells Fargo Arena loses over a million dollars a year, which is paid for by Polk County taxpayers.
Naturally, in order to protect the county's "investment" (...groan...), taxpayers should pony up another $28 million to build a giant hotel which will compete against all the non-taxpayer-subsidized hotels in downtown Des Moines.
